Injured Rudiger to Miss Champions League Clash
Real Madrid have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) title due to centre-back Antonio Rudiger dealing with a thigh problem.
Last Saturday, 1 February, Rudiger sustained a leg injury during the first half of Real’s 1-0 La Liga defeat to Espanyol.
The next day, Los Blancos released a statement on their official website:
“Following tests carried out on our player Antonio Rudiger by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the femoral biceps of his right leg.”
According to reports, the 31-year-old German international could be sidelined for up to two weeks while he recovers. This means that he will likely miss the Spanish club’s UCL clash with Manchester City next Tuesday, 11 February.
One report from Spain states that Rudiger is optimistic about returning in time for the game, but coach Carlo Ancelotti is hesitant to jeopardise the centre-back’s health and well-being.
